Design a mobile application that delivers a geolocated narrative, providing users with relevant and engaging content based on their location.
Audience
Individuals seeking new and creative ways to explore their local parks and trails, looking for engaging experiences that make outdoor adventures more enjoyable.
Solution
Developed an AR and geolocation-based game that delivers an immersive murder mystery narrative set within users’ local parks and trails, encouraging exploration through interactive storytelling.
Project Constraints
Strict Deadlines
Had 12 weeks to finish this project with strict deadlines in place for check-ins throughout the project.
Research
Design Inspiration
Drawing on mood boards and my personal passion for a good mystery, I developed a narrative centered around one of my local trails, the Koonung Trail.
This creative springboard inspired a strong app name and visual identity, focusing on an old retired detective coming out of retirement to solve a case that remained unsolved for years.
Focus Groups and Persona’s
Because the project took place during the height of lockdown, I conducted focus groups with close family and friends living nearby. These sessions helped me clarify the app’s main aims and goals, and enabled me to develop detailed personas representing the primary user demographics I was designing for.
Storyboards and Sketches
Once I had all my initial research finished, I moved onto creating storyboards for my Narrative and Basic Screen Sketches to get the ball Rolling!
Ideate
Initial Screen Designs
After gathering all my inspiration, I created the first draft of the key screens required for the game.
Heuristic Evaluation and Testing
After completing the initial design, I conducted a heuristic evaluation along with a small user test involving four participants. This process provided valuable insights into both major and minor improvements needed for the app.

Reflections
1.
This was my first time truly using Figma, and I found it easy to learn and use, supported by a wealth of helpful resources.
2.
User testing had a hugely positive impact, revealing issues I hadn’t noticed during design, including inconsistencies and problems with colour and text.
3.
Maintaining a clear file structure was essential for keeping a project organised and efficient from start to finish.
